Vascular Neurology Fellowship

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is accepting applications for its vascular neurology fellowship program for fellowship years beginning July 1, 2018, and participates in the Vascular Neurology Match.

About the vascular neurology program

UMMC's stroke program offers the state's most extensive acute inpatient and outpatient care for patients with cerebrovascular disease. Our stroke program is designated as a Mississippi level one center providing the highest level of care to cerebrovascular patients in Mississippi and has received the American Heart Association's Gold Plus and Target elite quality awards. The dedicated, experienced staff includes board-certified vascular neurologists, neuro-intensivists, neuro-interventionalists, neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, emergency medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, specialized neuroscience nurses, stroke coordinators, navigators, and researchers. Acute emergency department evaluation and direct care on the dedicated 6-bed stroke unit and 20-bed unit is provided by a highly trained, experienced team.

The UMMC Stroke Center includes the the participation of a multidisciplinary team of pharmacists, case coordinators and social workers, therapists, palliative care and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialists to provide excellent care to over 1,200 patients yearly in the acute hospital setting. Continuity of care and management of outpatient cerebrovascular disease is provided by vascular neurologists and nurse practitioners in our cerebrovascular clinics.

About the fellowship program

Our vascular neurology fellowship is ACGME-accredited one-year fellowship program. On inpatient rotations, the fellow participates in bedside rounds, overseeing our residents and nurse practitioner, under the oversight of our vascular service attending as well as responds to acute stroke alerts within the hospital. In the outpatient setting, the fellow participates in management of patients with our vascular neurologists for continuity of care. Elective rotations include neuro-intensive care, neuro-interventional, ultrasound (transcranial and carotid), physical medicine and rehabilitation, and research. These electives can be tailored to the interest of the fellow. The fellow participates in weekly fellowship didactics, monthly resident didactics, and stroke program performance improvement meetings and initiatives.
